"So, regardless of whether you think he should be starting (again, I personally don't think he should) the idea that he has been shoe-horned back in to a winning team at any expense simply isn't true"

Sorry, even that doesn't wash with me.

Even BFS couldn't stick him straight back in after the way we were playing. He got back in against WB & you say he took a chance & I presume by that you mean he scored a goal.

He did & that's great , but we were overrun in midfield that game in the second half & couldn't string two passes together to keep the ball. In general the actual performances since he's been back playing have been less convincing, even if results generally have been good .

If he's fit & already in the team he's a stick on no matter how poorly he plays & no matter that other better options/players aren't being played.

His place in the team dramatically slows us down ( particularly alongside Noble) & it totally effects in a negative way the pace of play & the way we play.

He simply shouldn't be a regular starter & he should be a sub at the best. I respect the man & his leadership & what he's done & even happy to keep him as club captain & perhaps expand him in to coaching, if he's interested.

Yes, I hope he does. Start with Morgan and, if he tires when we are WINNING,, Nolan or Noble on to "park the bus" alongside Song. Opinions, eh?

In the eight games following Nolan's return from injury, he started seven on the bench, playing a combined total of 120 minutes (excluding the one he started against Everton). When he did start against Everton it was due to injuries and following that, he was dropped again for the next game against Newcastle.

He got another chance against WBA and took it. Since then he has been part of a team that has gone on it's best run of form of the season. I didn't see the Sunderland game but he played well against WBA and Swansea but was poor against Leicester.

So, regardless of whether you think he should be starting (again, I personally don't think he should) the idea that he has been shoe-horned back in to a winning team at any expense simply isn't true.

This is what I want to see tomorrow:

-----------------------Adrian----------------------

Demel----Tomkins-----Reid-----Cresswell
---------------------Song------------------------
---Kouyate----------------------Amalfitano
-------------------Downing---------------------
---------Sakho------------Carroll--------------

Obviously Collins if Tomkins isn't available. Anything else is a load of old cunt.

You think he'll start with Morgan?

I hope but I doubt.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
I'd like to think you are correct Brucies, I really would. It's all very good reasoning, you have to trust Fat Sam to believe all that and with the way he always seems to find a place for Nolan and comes out with shit like he won't change a winning side when he did when Nolan wasn't in it fills me with doubt.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
This has become boring.

Allla took a risk yesterday. It didn't work. But trying to get any points at Chelsea away usually doesn't.

Morgan and Song will be fresh for tomorrow. We COULD win that game. CHeer up. We're still 5th.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
Song got clattered a few tines in the last game did he not?

Folk seemed keen to have Valencia playing and of the two, Carrol is maybe in a touch better form that Sakho?

Giving Noble an hour was probably better than ten minutesa from the bench.

Just trying to see it from the gaffers point of view.

I really hope he doesnt see Nolan as a first pick every game when fit though.

Amalfitano isn't Allardyce's first choice. People (myself included) may not agree with that but playing Nolan doesn't currently constitute a weakened side in the manager's eyes. Tomkins was injured and so was an enforced change.

Sakho and Song are first choice players who were rested because Allardyce (presumably with advice from his medical staff) didn't think they could play two full games in three days.

Allardyce took a calculated risk yesterday. Did it reduce our chances of getting something from the game? Yes, probably. Was it the determining factor? Almost certainly not. I'd be interested to see the swing in Chelsea's odds following the announcement of the teams - at a guess it would have been something like 1.31 to 1.26. For anyone that doesn't understand odds, that's a shift from highly likely to a tiny bit more likely.

That certainly doesn't represent a forfeit or write off. At the risk of repeating a question I have asked a couple of times previously, if Allardyce really did intend to throw the game, why the fuck did he start so many players who will feature against Arsenal tomorrow? It simply doesn't make sense.

Forest in the cup last year is an example of a game that was practically written off. Yesterday wasn't.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
You've just stated the very point most people are making ATHammer, we are not dogshit or saying that, just very disappointed that the manager chose to approach the game in the way that he did.

ATHammer 3:32 Sat Dec 27
Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
Fucking amazing. One game and we're dogshit again. The only questions I would have had on yesterdays line up were; Why Carroll ahead of Sakho? Terry and Cahill would have shit themselves against pace, Why Nolan ahead of Amalfitano, again pace and creativity rather than, well, er, nothing really.
Fact is, and it sticks in my throat, Chelsea played very well and would have beaten most teams yesterday.
So I ain't crucifying the manager over this one.

ACIrons 3:24 Sat Dec 27
Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
Brucies, Sakho, Song, Amilfintano, Tomkins, I take it the latter was injured, isn't quite five but would have made a bit of difference. Of course we'll never know now but it's just the sour taste a white flag line up like yesterdays leaves, I think the questions it leaves lingering and the disruption of a good run, 5 unbeaten, by practically writing off a game like yesterdays can only be bad for moral and it makes getting anything against Arsenal now a lot harder as if it wasn't going to be hard enough anyway.

That image of him sat with his feet up watching the game will haunt me. As will his determination in picking Nolan ahead of almafitano.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
I'm not sure how anyone who saw the game yesterday and witnessed the gulf in class between the two teams and the level of performance of SEVERAL West Ham players, could come to the conclusion that Song would have made the difference.

I know he's good but we would have needed five of him yesterday. We had an almost full strength team out and were comfortably beaten. The difference was a hell of a lot more than one or two players.

Time to move on.

ACIrons 3:14 Sat Dec 27
Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
My argument would be that play the players and then take them off when they are no longer effective. Suppose Song had started against Chelsea and we'd gone 1 up, after an hour take him off if you must, maybe we'd have hung on or got a draw. Bring him on when we are 1-0 down as he did and what if he'd got injured? wasted against Chelsea and then out of the next game would have been the result. Makes no sense to me what Fat Sam did yesterday. It's a recipe to lose two games rather than trying to win one isn't it?

The news broadcasts today are talking about how Chelsea swept us aside. Allerdyce once again has brought shame on our side. WE FUCKING FORFEITED THAT GAME.

Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
The question isn't whether a professional footballer can play twice in three days, it's whether they can do so whilst maintaining the required level of performance.

ACIrons 3:09 Sat Dec 27
Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
I was using Nolan as an example of Fat Sam's hypocrisy, no doubt he'll play for both games but players not favoured by Fat Sam won't.

Cliff Richard 3:07 Sat Dec 27
Re: We fucking forfeited that game...
Hank thinks that to suggest that some professional footballers - who earn thousands of pounds a week - cannot play two games in three days is ludicrous.

Am i telling you that Nolan can play 2 games in 3 days ?? ,where did i write that ?

I didn't say i agreed with BFS , i said that is what he said and that is what he does . Clearly Nolan shouldn't start and to be honest i would be surprised if he did. But he has clearly targeted the Arsenal Game as more winnable and i would expect our strongest side out, except Jenkinson of course

ACIrons 3:02 Sat Dec 27

and you are telling me Nolan can play 2 games in 3 days?

I'd argue he can barely play a half in 3 days.
